Cross Country Men's Runner of the Week

Andre Gallant, Coast Guard (Sophomore, Woodbridge, Va.)

Sophomore Andre Gallant was the top finisher for the Bears crossing the line in sixth place (17:04.8) at the Trinity Invitational.

 

Cross Country Women's Runner of the Week

Kaitlyn Mooney, Coast Guard (Freshman, Manahawkin, N.J.)

Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney made her Coast Guard debut count as she won the Trinity Invitational in 19:01.5 beating the next closest runner by just over 45 seconds. Her time was the 10th fastest 5K in program history.

 

Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week

Amanda Garofalo, MIT (Freshman, Fairfield, N.J.)

In a 2-0 week for MIT, Amanda Garofalo tallied two goals and three assists for seven points. She generated one goal and three assists, all in the second half, breaking open a 2-0 game en route to a 9-0 victory over Gordon on Thursday. Garofalo then scored the game-winning goal 4:22 into the first overtime period to defeat No. 17 University of New England on Saturday.

 
 

Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week

Lauren Drakeley, Babson (Junior, Woodbury, Conn.)

Drakeley keyed a strong defensive effort that saw fifth-ranked Babson allow just goals and five shots on goal as the Beavers defeated Connecticut College, 4-1, and Wesleyan, 5-1, to stay unbeaten. The junior back also recorded an assist in Saturday's win over the Cardinals. 

 

Football Offensive Athlete of the Week

Jordan Wilcox, Springfield (Senior, FB, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.)

Springfield College senior fullback Jordan Wilcox help lead Springfield to a 28-8 non-conference victory over Kean University to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2013. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y. native racked a career-best up 223 yards on 27 carries, averaging 8.3 per carry, and rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including a 51-yarder in the first quarter. He also added a touchdown reception of eight yards. Through two weeks, Wilcox has carried the ball 57 times for 371 yards. 

 

Football Defensive Athlete of the Week

Patrick Vidal, Catholic (Senior, DL, Sussasunna, N.J.)

Senior defensive lineman Patrick Vidal anchored a staunch defensive effort that forced five turnovers in a 16-10 win over Utica in its home-opener, the first career win for head coach Mike Gutelius. Vidal was a monster defensively as he racked up game highs with 12 total tackles, four tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. On two Utica fourth-quarter drives, Vidal and the Cardinals forced a turnover on downs by the Pioneers on their first and then went four-and-out on their to win the game.

 

Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week

Clyde Tamburro, Norwich (Freshman, K, Elizabethtown, Pa.)

Tamburro remained perfect in 2017 in kicking. He hit his point after attempt and a 24-yard field goal to improve to 3-for-3 on the year.

 

Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week

Shawn McCall, Wheaton (Sophomore, Sammamish, Wash.)

Shawn McCall registered two goals in as many games for the Lyons this week. The sophomore forward took one shot which resulted in a goal for a 1.00 shot percentage in a 3-2 win at Western New England, before adding another vs. Keene State. 

 

Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Brad Deckel, Springfield (Junior, Lansdale, Pa.)

Brad Deckel, a junior defender at Springfield College, helped the Pride to a 3-0 week including wins over Gordon, Westfield State and Steven. The two games that Deckel played in this week were both shutout victories for Springfield College, as he scored once to aid the Pride to a 3-0 win over Gordon before converting a penalty kick in the first overtime period against Westfield State, leading the Maroon and White to a 1-0 win over the Owls.

 

Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week

Kim Quiles, Springfield (Senior, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.)

Kim Quiles, a senior forward for Springfield College, had an incredible week for the Pride as she registered six points on three goals, leading the maroon and white to a pair of victories over non-conference opponents. In a 1-0 win over Western New England on Wednesday, Quiles had the game-deciding goal in the 37th minute, before coming back on Saturday and mounting a come-from-behind victory over Endicott with two goals to open the second half. The Pride is now off to its best start since 2007 and stands at 4-0 heading into this week.

 

Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Shelby Hall, Smith (Senior, West Springfield, Mass.)

In a 2-0 week with victories over Mass-Dartmouth and Maine Maritime, senior goalkeeper Shelby Hall posted consecutive shutouts in net. She made six stops in a 1-0 win over Mass-Dartmouth, including a PK save in the final 10 minutes of the game and followed that performance with a four save effort against Maine Maritime. Hall leads the NEWMAC in save percentage (.957) and is tied for first in goals against average (0.25). Her 11 career shutouts ranks fourth all-time in Smith soccer history.

 

Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week

Andie Maloney, MIT (Freshman, Manhattan Beach. Calif.)

In a 4-0 week for MIT, Andie Maloney tallied 110 assists, 34 digs, and five blocks. She posted 31 assists, nine digs, and four kills in a sweep of Gordon on Wednesday. Maloney then registered 21 assists, eight digs, three blocks, and three aces in two sets of a 3-0 win over Roger Williams to start the MIT Invitational on Friday. She dished out seven assists in one set of a sweep of Endicott before compiling 51 assists, 17 digs, and two blocks in a 3-2 victory over No. 15 University of La Verne, helping the Engineers win the MIT Invitational.

 
 

Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week

Anagabrielle Sanchez, Springfield (Sophomore, Caguas, Puerto Rico)

Sanchez had another outstanding week defensively for Springfield, totaling 79 digs, 18 assists, and four service aces. After posting 16 digs and two aces in a win over Amherst, Sanchez notched 23 digs and six assists in a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round meeting. She later posted 16 digs and five assists in a loss to nationally-ranked La Verne and closed out the weekend producing 24 digs and six assists in a five-set win over Geneseo. Through two weeks, Sanchez has 40 more digs than anyone else in the NEWMAC and ranks first in digs per set.
