NEWMAC Teams Prepare for NCAA Tournaments

BABSON PARK, Mass. - A number of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams are preparing to begin post-season play in their respective NCAA Tournaments this week. The regional rounds for softball, women's lacrosse and men's and women's tennis kick off, starting with women's lacrosse on Wednesday, May 6.

NEWMAC tournament champion, Babson, is the lone conference representative in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse tournament. The Beavers open play on Wednesday night when they host Farmingdale State at 7:00 p.m. at MacDowell Field. Babson is making its third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and will host a first round match-up for the first time in program history. Tickets for the game will be $3 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for children, ages 2-12. Live stats and video of the game can also be found online.

Springfield College will make its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. The Pride, who captured the NEWMAC Tournament title, will be joined in the New England Regional by regular season champs, Coast Guard. The regional round, hosted by Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., begins Thursday, May 7 and runs through Sunday, May 10.

As the number-seven seed in the double-elimination regional tournament, Springfield draws Rhode Island College in Thursday's final first round match-up, beginning at approximately 4:00 p.m. That game is immediately preceded by Coast Guard versus Bridgewater State, which starts at 2:00 p.m. Opponents and times for Friday's games will be determined by the first day's results. The regional champions will move on to the finals, hosted by Montclair State University, May 15-19.

Tickets to a single session are available for $5 for adults and $3 for students/children/seniors. A tournament pass can also be purchased for $15 for adults or $6 for students/children/seniors.

After winning the NEWMAC women's tennis tournament in the fall, Wellesley College earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis tournament, which begins Friday, May 8. The Blue will travel to Williamstown, Mass. to take on Endicott on Friday at 8:00 a.m. The winner of that first round match will take on Middlebury Saturday morning.

On the men's side, NEWMAC regular season and tournament champions, MIT, was selected for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament. The Engineers will take on Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in a first round contest, hosted by Middlebury. The winner will move on to the regional final on Sunday.

The NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament will begin the following week with regional play from May 13-17. Selections will be announced on Monday, May 11.
