Springfield, Mass. -- June 3, 2009 -- Two-time NCAA Track & Field Champion Steve Headley of Springfield College is one of the featured "Faces in the Crowd" in the latest issue (June 8) of Sports Illustrated, which hit the newstands today. You can check it out at www.si.com/faces.

Headley is in Sports Illustrated because he won two prestigious NCAA championships during 2008-2009. He won the 55-meter dash with a blazing time of 6.24 seconds at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana in March. He also won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.51 seconds at the NCAA Divsion III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio just 11 days ago. By winning those two premier events, Headley can clearby be dubbed "the fastest man alive in Division III" in 2008-09.

Headley became a four-time All-American overall this past year by also finishing third in the 200 meter dash, and by anchoring the 4x100 meter relay team to a sixth place finish outdoors. Steve was also the USTFCCCA New England Regional Men's Track Athlete of the Year, both indoors and outdoors, as well as the NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year outdoors.

Steve becomes the second Springfield College athlete to be featured in SI's "Faces in the Crowd" in 30 months. Quarterback Chris Sharpe, then a junior, was featured in SI's "Faces" in the January 22, 2007 issue for scoring a Springfield College-record seven rushing touchdowns in a win over St. John Fisher during the 2006 season.
