Nov 11, 2009NEWMAC Teams Begin Post-Season Play This Week![]() BABSON PARK, Mass. - A number of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams will begin play in NCAA Division III tournaments this week. First round and regional games for field hockey, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball are slated to kick off over the next four days. The MIT field hockey team is the first to compete, as it travels to Nichols College on Wednesday, November 11 for a first round contest. The Engineers and Bison square off at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. In its first ever NCAA appearance, MIT hopes to avenge a 3-0 regular season setback at the hands of Nichols. The winner will advance to face host Tufts University in the second round on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. By winning the NEWMAC tournament and capturing the conference's automatic qualifier, Wellesley earned a spot in the NCAA Women's Volleyball New England Regional, to be held Thursday through Saturday at Tufts. The Blue have a first round match-up with Clarkson on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Tufts will offer a webcast of all regional matches, which can be found here. A pair of NEWMAC squads made their way into the field of 63 of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. Tournament Champion MIT earned the league's automatic bid and will travel to the University of Rochester, for the first NCAA appearance in program history. The Engineers will take on Rowan University, which is making its fifth straight appearance in the national tournament, on Saturday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will meet either host Rochester or Westfield State in the second round the next day at 6:00 p.m. The Wheaton College women's soccer team kept its streak of 10 straight NCAA appearances alive with an at-large berth. The Lyons, which enter the tournament ranked no. 25 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), will head to Middlebury to take on Richard Stockton on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. A video broadcast of the game is available and can be found here. If Wheaton can get past the Ospreys, it would take on either Middlebury or Husson on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Babson College played its way into the NCAA Men's Soccer tournament for the second straight year by winning the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday. The Beavers earned a date with Western New England College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. The winner of that first round match-up will face either St. Joseph's of Maine of the host Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The NCAA New England Regional Cross Country Championship will also be held Saturday hosted by Southern Maine University. The women's race begins at 11:00 a.m. with the men following one hour later. Teams will look to qualify for the NCAA National Championship, to be held one week later, at that meet. Complete information can be found here. In addition to teams participating in NCAA competition, a pair of squads will try to capture Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Coast Guard earned the no. three seed in the ECAC New England Women's Volleyball tournament and will host Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. If they get past the first round, the Bears will advance to the semifinals at the highest remaining seed on Saturday. The WPI field hockey team will host New England College in an ECAC quarterfinal as well. The Engineers earned the tournament's no. four seed and will take on NEC Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Live stats for that game can be found here.
