NCAA Spring Championships Begin this Week for NEWMAC Teams

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will be well represented this week, as the NCAA Spring Championships begin in the sports of women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis and softball.

Five-time defending NEWMAC Champions, Babson College, will open play in the Division III Women’s Lacrosse tournament at Bowdoin College on Wednesday, May 11. The Beavers will take on the host Polar Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, as they look to advance out of the first round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth year in a row. Coast Guard Academy, and start pitcher Hayley Feindel, who was recently featured in USA Today, will begin play in the NCAA softball regional on Thursday afternoon. The Bears are the No. 2 seed in the New England Regional, which will be played at Rhode Island College, and will face No. 7 Lesley in their opening game at 4:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be offered for all games in the regional, which takes place Thursday through Monday.

On Friday, May 13, a pair of NEWMAC squads will open play in the team portion of the NCAA men’s and women’s tennis tournaments. MIT will travel to Middlebury for the first three rounds of the men’s championship. The Engineers open up against Hunter College on Friday at 10:00 a.m. and would advance to face Bowdoin on Saturday if they win.

NEWMAC Women’s champion, Wheaton College, earned its second straight NCAA appearance thanks to the conference’s automatic qualification. Wheaton will look to duplicate its opening round win from a year ago, facing Nichols College on Friday in a regional hosted by Williams. The Lyons would draw the host Ephs in round two with a win.

The field for the NCAA Baseball tournament, the final spring championship of the year, will be announced on Sunday, May 15. Regional play would begin on Wednesday, May 18. This year’s New England regional will be played in Harwich, Mass.
