Baseball Romp Thomas More College, 14-5
Box Score/ResultsPort Charlotte, FL- The Cougars' baseball squad moved to 4-3 on the season with a 14-5 win over Thomas More College of Ohio on Thursday. The win marks the Cougars first back to back wins of the season.
Miles Whitlock (Augusta, ME) was impressive in eight innings of work, striking out 13, while giving up seven hits and five runs. Whitlock yielded single runs in the second and third innings, two runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth, earning the win and evening his record at 1-1.
For the Saints of Thomas More, freshman starter Kyle York (Ludlow, KY) pitched five innings, giving up three runs, two of which were earned. York would leave the game with a 5-3 lead. Clark would then chase the next two pitchers from the game after seven consecutive batters reached base and scored in a seven run sixth inning. Brendan Solecki (Portsmouth, RI) walked to lead off the sixth and was followed by two of the next three batters reaching by way of the free pass, and Eric Dufour (Exeter, NH) reaching on a fielders choice. Highlighting the big inning was a two-run double by Ronald Bathrick (North Haven, CT) and a two-run triple by Kevin Kopec (Katonah, NY). Kopec would have a tremendous day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.
The Cougars would add three more runs in the seventh inning on singles by Matt Tillo (Osterville, MA) and Cole Osburn (Mendon, MA). Tillo also had a great day at the plate going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI, improving his team leading batting average to .526.
Having won their last two games, and three of their last four, Head Coach Jason Falcon points to one aspect of his team that has led to this success. "Our pitching staff has been more consistent by throwing strikes," Falcon said, "And this gives our offense a chance to score runs."
Clark will take the field Friday for a double-header against Northland College of Wisconsin. First pitch will be at 9:30 am.
