Port Charlotte, FL --- WPI baseball had a tough day on the diamond dropping a 9-3 loss to Division II Lewis University before falling to Misericordia 13-12 in a ten inning battle in game two of the nightcap.

In game one, Lewis scored five runs in the bottom of the inning and took advantage of three WPI errors to cruise to a 9-3 win over the Engineers.  Sophomores Mike Swanton (Foxboro, MA) and Cody McGregor (Westfield, MA) paced the Crimson and Gray, both going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.  Ryan Rainone (Oakville, CT), Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA), Mark Dignum (Albany, NY) and Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA) each tallied hits in the loss.

Senior Brian Duncan (West Suffield, CT) was tabbed with the loss and falls to 0-2 on the season.  Duncan allowed three runs on nine hits while fanning three in six innings of work.  Marc Chatterton (Fall River, MA) and Justin Skelly (Derby, CT) each tossed an inning of relief for the Engineers.

Despite putting up 20 hits on the board, WPI fell to Misericordia 13-12 in its second game of the day.  Swanton belted a triple in the second inning and a homerun in the third inning to help the Engineers jump out to a quick 6-0 lead in the third inning.  Misericordia battled back, and while the Crimson and Gray took an 11-9 lead into the top of the ninth, the Cougars gained the lead thanks to a timely pair of singles and double.

The Engineers set the score at 12 in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Dignum that plated Lyle Miller (Milford, CT) who had gotten aboard via a single to center field.  The Cougars took the lead and the win in the top of the tenth inning on a sac fly to right field.

Swanton led the Engineers with a 3-for-6, three RBI performance at the plate.  McNee was 2-for-5 with three RBI while McGregor was 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Senior Mike Ball (Waltham, MA) pitched a bulk of the innings for WPI, but it was Alex Hansen (Burlington, CT) who took the loss on the mound.  Ball threw seven innings to yield five runs on ten hits with a strikeout.  Hansen (0-2) pitched just the tenth inning and allowed one run on two hits.
