Baseball Splits a Pair against Northland
Box Score/ResultsPort Charlotte, FL- Clark baseball split a double-header Friday with Northland College (WI), moving their record to 5-4.
Matt Tillo (Osterville, MA) continued his great week on the mound tossing his second complete game in as many chances. Tillo faced only four batters over the minimum, striking out ten, and allowing only three hits. Tillo improved to 2-0 on the season as the Cougars defeated the Jacks 6-1.
The Jacks got to Tillo in the second when an RBI ground out by Corey Stibbe (Ashland, WI) scored Cody Carroll (Shawano, WI).
Clark answered Northland's run with one of their own in the second inning when Scott Hollingsworth (Tilton, NH) doubled down the left field line scoring Eric Dufour (Exeter, NH). Dufour would add an RBI in the fourth inning on a fielders choice scoring Joe Silva (Westbury, NY) to give Clark the lead (2-1). The Cougars would add four more runs in the sixth inning on a two run single by Hollingsworth and RBI singles by Steve DeMartino (East Haven, CT) and Matt Adams (Jackson Heights, NY).
For the Jacks', reliever Alex Tsyomaya (Glendive, MT), threw well in an emergency appearance when starter Tyler Teadt (Pheonix, AZ), left after one inning with a shoulder injury. Tsyomaya threw five innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits, striking out three.
In game two, Clark would see the Jacks jump out to a 5-1 lead after two innings on a two run single by Chris Steiner (Auburn, WA), and RBI singles by Michael Cross (Auburn, WA), Matt Tanneberg (Kennewick, WA), and Cody Carroll.
Clark starter Dan Simokonis (Worcester, MA) would settle down after a rocky start to go five innings allowing five earned runs and striking out four. He would leave the game with the lead but the Cougars could not hold on for the win.
Clark rallied in the fourth inning for five runs to take the lead, chasing Jacks' starter Matt Tanneberg from the game after going three and one third innings, allowing six runs-five earned-and giving up five hits. Leading the Cougar attack was Ben Seel (Belgrade, ME) with an RBI double, and Matt Adams with an RBI single to give the Cougars the lead.
Northland would regain the lead for good in the sixth after a Bryce Szymanski (Pequot Lakes, MN) home-run and two Clark errors would lead to three runs and an 8-6 lead for the Jacks.
Reliever Will Opdyk (Sacramento, CA) earned the win for the Jacks, tossing three and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Tanneberg.
Clark, now 5-4, concludes its spring trip with a double header Saturday against Olivet College (MI) beginning at 11am.
