May 29, 2009 MIT's Thomas Phillips Earns Academic All-America Honors CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Thomas Phillips added another award to his
growing resume after being voted to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America Baseball Second Team as selected by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier
this week. He is the first player to receive this honor since Jason
Witzberger '07 in 2006 and the eighth overall.
MIT's institutional tally now stands at 153 following its eighth
award of the year, maintaining its position as the leader among
Division III programs. Sophomore catcher Dan Hyatt represented the
Engineers on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team.
Prior to his first national award, Phillips was tabbed to the
New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New
England Division III Second Team and was named the New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year.
He will close out his playing career in New England on Thursday,
June 4 at the NEIBA All-Star Game to be played at Campanelli
Stadium, home of the Brockton (Mass.) Rox.
