NEWMAC Announces 2009 Baseball Post-Season Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 baseball award winners on Tuesday. Wheaton College led the way with five All-Conference selections, as well as the Rookie of the Year, Dan Haugh (Andover, Mass.). MIT and WPI each had four players named to the First or Second Teams. MIT senior Thomas Phillips (Durham, N.C.) was selected as the NEWMAC Player of the Year and WPI senior Conor Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) was tabbed as the league's Pitcher of the Year. Andy Barlow was honored as the Coach of the Year while Barlow's Engineers also received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award. 

Among Wheaton's five honorees were four First Team picks, Paul Malaguti (Andover, Mass.), Sean Munley (Trenton, N.J.), Nick Pecora (Highland Park, N.J.) and Josh Simmons (Cranston, R.I.). Jeff Lieneck (Foxboro, Mass.) was also named to the Second Team. Fahey was joined on the First Team by teammate Scott McNee (Falmouth, Mass.). Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) of Babson and Scott Hollingsworth (Tilton, N.H.) from Clark rounded out the squad.

In addition to Phillips' award, Dan Hyatt (Wallingford, Conn.), David Nole (Torrington, Conn.) and Steven Nunez (Tulare, Calif.) of MIT were selected to the Second Team. Also on the Second Team were Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) and Bryan Evans (Bellaire, Texas) from Babson, Clark junior Phillip DiMarco (Bellingham, Mass.), and Nick Bean (Middleboro, Mass.) and Mitch McClune (Pembroke, Mass.) of WPI.
