2006 NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team Selected

WORCESTER, Mass.--  Springfield junior forward Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) was named on Tuesday as the 2006 NEWMAC Field Hockey Player of the Year after leading the Pride to their third straight conference tournament championship this fall.  WPI freshman Kelly Johnson (Buxton, Maine) was named as the 2006 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, while her coach, Johanna DiCarlo, was tabbed by her peers as the league's Coach of the Year.

Veazie has amassed 19 goals and four assists for 42 points to date, including four goals and a pair of assists for a 10-point performance during the NEWMAC tournament.  Johnson netted eight goals and seven assists for 23 points during her rookie season for WPI, while DiCarlo guided the Engineers to their highest win total in her four year tenure with a 12-6 overall mark in 2006.

Clark University was named as the inaugural Sportsmanship Award winner as voted on by the field hockey players at each conference member institution.

Joining Veazie on the first team all-NEWMAC squad are teammates Jane Kelleher and Jillian Urtz, Wheaton's Sara Dimick, Babson's Heather Dunbar, Brittany Stevens and Andrea Tufts, Clark's Kaitlin Kelley, WPI's Nicole Maglione and Wellesley's Julia Parzych and Jenn Shrull.

Johnson was joined on the NEWMAC second team all-conference squad by Wheaton's Alisa Ardito and Lyndsie Ryalls, M.I.T.'s Anna Ayuso and Sharon Prange, Clark's Carley Corkum, Smith's Rebecca Capute, Springfield's Emma Kaplan, Wellesley's Emily Hewitt and Lydia Parzych and Mount Holyoke's Susan West.
