Springfield Captures 2006 NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass.--  Second-seeded Springfield earned its third straight NEWMAC Field Hockey championship on Sunday afternoon with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over top-seeded Wellesley in the title match.

The Pride (16-5) overcame a 2-0 first half deficit with a four-goal surge that came in a 6:11 span late in the first half, as Springfield held off a late charge by the Blue (15-4) to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championships.

Jane Kelleher netted a pair of goals in the win for Springfield, which also received a goal and an assist from Brittany Veazie.  Jenn Shrull collected two of Wellesley's tallies on the day, as the Blue will await word of an at-large berth in the NCAA Championships.
