Nov 14, 2007 Wheaton Trio Earns All-Region Field Hockey Honors from NFHCA NORTON, MA- A trio of Wheaton College field hockey players
earned all-region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches
Association (NFHCA), as senior co-captains Kim Anson
(Washington, CT/Shepaug Valley) and Sara Dimick
(Cumberland, ME/Greely) and junior Alisa Ardito
(Branford, CT/Branford) were each named to the New England
East Region first team.
In all, 16 student-athletes landed on the first team, while 28 drew
New England East Region honors. Wheaton joined New England Women's
and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart and tournament
champion Springfield College as the only schools to place three on
the first team.
Dimick earned NFHCA All-New England laurels for the third straight
season, placing on the first team for the second consecutive fall.
Ardito was a second-team selection in 2006, while Anson drew her
initial honor. The three Lyons were also NEWMAC All-Conference
picks this year.
As one of the top forwards in the NEWMAC, Dimick led the league
with a single-season school-record-tying 11 assists, and she was
third in the conference with 43 points and fourth with 16 goals.
Dimick tallied four game-winning goals, tying for fifth in the
NEWMAC. She tallied at least one point in 12 games and contributed
to more than one goal in eight contests. Dimick will graduate as
the program's career points (104) and assists (26) leader, as well
as second in goals (39).
Anson started all 20 games in a backfield that primarily featured
two sophomores, one freshman back and a first-year keeper. She
helped Wheaton post seven shutouts, the program's most since 1994,
to go along with a 1.38 goals against average. The Lyons yielded
only 9.6 shots per game. Anson provided two assists, including one
on the game-winning tally during Wheaton's upset of
nationally-ranked Springfield College on October 13.
Ardito proved to be one of the league's most versatile forwards, as
the speedy attacker finished with nine goals, nine assists and 27
points. She tied for third in the NEWMAC in assists and by scoring
five game-winning goals. Ardito tied for eighth in points and was
just shy of the top 10 in goals. She netted the game-winner in each
of Wheaton's first four NEWMAC victories and finished with at least
one point in 11 games. After starting all 20 games, Ardito enters
her senior campaign second at Wheaton in career assists, fourth in
points and tied for fourth in goals.
With 28 wins since 2006, Wheaton recorded the most victories in
consecutive seasons in program history. At 13-7 overall, the Lyons
competed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Tournament after advancing to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals for
the second straight year. Wheaton went 6-2 in league play, setting
a program record for conference wins.
