Multiple NEWMAC Student-Athletes Receive NFHCA All-Region Honors
BABSON PARK, Mass. - The National Field Hockey Coaches'
Association (NFHCA) announced its 2008 All-Region teams on Monday
and 17 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
student-athletes were named to the All-New England East Region
teams, including nine first team selections.
NEWMAC regular season and tournament champions, Springfield, had
the most selections of any team in the region, with five. NEWMAC
Athlete of the Year Jane Kelleher
(Chatham, Mass.) was joined by Jill
Urtz (Verona, N.Y.) on the first team. Teammates
Meg Bradley (Cumberland, R.I.),
Katherine McCarthy (Conway,
Mass.) and Morgan Rein (Mystic,
Conn.) were named to the second team.
Both Wellesley and Wheaton placed four student-athletes on the
All-Region teams. For the Blue, Callie
Lekas (Brewster, Mass.) and Katie
Sang (Cupertino, Calif.) were first teamers, while
Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, Va.)
and Katie Frett (Hallowell,
Maine) were tabbed for the second team. For Wheaton,
Alisa Ardito (Branford, Conn.)
and Alex Block (Saratoga, Calif.)
earned first team accolades, and Andrea
Bagley (Foxboro, Mass.) and Cara
Cusson (Ashfield, Mass.) were named to the second
team.
Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.)
of Babson, Annie Doton
(Woodstock, Vt.) from Mount Holyoke and MIT freshman
Anna Teruya (Hockessin, Del.)
were the remaining first team selections. Phoebe
Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) of Smith picked up
second team honors.
