NEWMAC Announces 2008 Field Hockey Post-season Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2008 Field Hockey post-season award winners on Tuesday and NEWMAC regular season and tournament champions, Springfield, led the way with four All-Conference selections, including NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.). Mount Holyoke first-year Shara Robertson (KZN, South Africa) earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors. Springfield coach Melissa Rogers was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year. Clark University received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Teammate Jill Urtz (Verona, N.Y.) joined Kelleher on the All-Conference first team. NEWMAC runner-up Wellesley placed three student-athletes, Callie Lekas (Brewster, Mass.), Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, Va.) and Katie Sang (Cupertino, Calif.), on the first team. Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) and Jessica Paladino (Turner, Maine) of Babson, Anna Teruya (Hockessin, Del.) from MIT, Mount Holyoke's Annie Doton (Woodstock, Vt.), Smith first-year Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Wheaton senior Alisa Ardito (Branford, Conn.) rounded out the first team selections.
