NEWMAC Fall Post-Season In Full Swing This WeekendBABSON PARK, Mass. - Two conference championships will be awarded this weekend, while another pair of post-season tournaments kick off, in a busy weekend of post-season play for NEWMAC teams. The men's and women's cross country championships will be decided on Saturday morning at Franklin Park in Boston. Meanwhile, the women's soccer and field hockey quarterfinal rounds begin Saturday afternoon. The NEWMAC cross country championship meet will be held Saturday morning at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., with MIT serving as the host institution. The men's eight-kilometer race gets under way at 11:00 a.m. with the women's five-kilometer competition starting at 12:00 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the women's event at 12:45 p.m. MIT is the defending champion in both races. The NEWMAC Field Hockey post-season tournament begins Saturday, with Springfield, Wheaton, Wellesley and WPI serving as the host institutions for the quarterfinal round. Top seed Springfield hosts MIT at 1:00 p.m. Smith travels to Wheaton to take on the Lyons in a 1:00 p.m. start as well. Third-seeded Wellesley will take on Mount Holyoke at 1:30 p.m. WPI and Babson square off at 12:00 p.m. in Worcester. Quarterfinals winners advance to the NEWMAC semifinals the following Saturday, with the highest remaining seed serving as the host team. The NEWMAC Women's Soccer quarterfinals also begin on Saturday on the campuses of the four highest seeds, Springfield, Wheaton, Babson and Wellesley. In the day's first game, no. 3 seed Babson hosts no. 6 Clark at 11:00 a.m. That is followed by a slate of games at 1:00 p.m. The Pride earned the top seed in the women's soccer tournament and will host WPI. Defending champion Wheaton, which earned the tournament's second seed, meets Mount Holyoke at home. MIT travels to Wellesley in the fourth quarterfinal match-up. The winners of Saturday's games will move on to the tournament semifinals the following Saturday, November 8 at the site of the highest remaining seed. In addition to this weekend's post-season contests, the NEWMAC men's soccer and volleyball regular season wrap up on Saturday. The volleyball post-season tournament gets underway on Tuesday, November 4. The men's soccer quarterfinals will be held on Wednesday, November 5.
