NEWMAC Announces 2009 Field Hockey Post-season Award Winners
BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 Field Hockey post-season
award winners on Tuesday. Babson senior Jess
Paladino (Turner, Maine) was selected the NEWMAC Athlete
of the Year while Mel Melkonian
(Worcester, Mass.) of Clark was named Rookie of the Year. NEWMAC
Tournament Champion, MIT, had a league-high four All-Conference
selections, including three on the First Team while MIT's
Cheryl Silva garnered NEWMAC Coach of the Year
honors. Babson received the league's Sportsmanship Award.
Teammates Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) and
Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) joined
Paladino on the First Team All-Conference. Keri
Dixon (Bethlehem, Pa.), Molly McShane
(Lake Bluff, Ill.) and Anna Teruya (Hockessin,
Del.) represented MIT on the squad. Wellesley's
Katie Frett (Hallowell, Maine)
and Callie Lekas (Brewster, Mass.) picked up First
Team accolades. Tricia Chase (Feeding Hills,
Mass.) of Mount Holyoke, Morgan Rein (Mystic,
Conn.) from Springfield and WPI's Kelly Johnson
(Buxton, Maine) rounded out the First Team honorees.
