WPI's Antoine Coleman to Attend NCAA Leadership Conference

Worcester, MA --- WPI men's basketball standout Antoine Coleman has been chosen to represent the institution at the 2007 NCAA National Leadership Conference to be held May 27 through 31 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.  Coleman will be the first WPI student-athlete to participate in the conference.

Coleman was selected from a pool of 1,308 nominations from 330 institutions. A total of 356 student-athletes from Division I, II and III institutions were invited to participate.  Coleman was nominated along with fellow WPI student-athletes Julia Berg (Cambridge, MA - Women's Soccer), Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA - Women's Volleyball), and Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT - Men's Crew).

Coleman, who hails from Everett, MA, has enjoyed tremendous success on the court, in the community and in the classroom at WPI.  During his junior campaign this past winter, he was named first-team All-NEWMAC and third team D3Hoops.com All-New England after leading the Engineers to their fourth straight conference regular season title and third consecutive selection to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Active in Big-Brothers/Big Sisters, Coleman was instrumental in speaking to Worcester politicians in an effort to maintain after school programming last spring.  He maintains a 3.0 GPA and completed his IQP Project which revamped the WPI Equipment Room.

The NCAA National Leadership Conference began in 1996 in conjunction with the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. The mission of the conference is to join together a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities.
