Babson Park, Mass.-Three New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2008 ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-District I basketball team, voted on by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). U.S.
Coast Guard Academy Senior DeCarol Davis
(Woodbridge, Va.) was named to the women's first team.
Jimmy Bartolotta (Littleton, Colo.) of MIT was
named to the men's first team, while teammate Alex
Bagley (Needham, Mass.) was named to the men's second
team.
Davis, who has helped lead Coast Guard to a 9-1 record and first
place standing in conference play, is ranked first in the Academy's
senior class of 226 cadets. She carries a 3.96 GPA with a major in
Electrical Engineering. Davis is averaging 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds
and 2.7 assists per game, while starting 17 games this season.
This is Davis' second straight selection to the District I first
team. She was also named the 2007 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Female Sports
Scholar of the Year, was a 2007 Rhodes' Scholar finalist, and is on
the Coast Guard Academy's Commandant of Cadet's List for Military
Excellence and Dean's List.
Bartolotta, a junior, who currently leads the NEWMAC in scoring,
carries a 3.79 GPA in Management Science & Physics. The 2006
NEWMAC Rookie of the Year has started 21 games this season,
averaging 24.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists, while making
44.6% of his three-point attempts. Bartolotta was also named to the
2006-07 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team.
Bagley, a senior, carries a 4.0 GPA in Chemical and Biological
Engineering. He has appeared in all 23 games for MIT this season,
averaging 4.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest. The selection of
both Bagley and Bartolotta marks the first time the MIT men's
basketball program has had two All-District selections in the same
season.
With their selections to the first team, Davis and Bartolotta
are now placed on the national ballot where they are eligible to
become ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans.
District I consists of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia,
Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec.
