Babson Park, Mass.-The New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) announced today that five student-athletes were
named to the d3hoops.com Men's All-Northeast Region teams. Wheaton
guard Anthony Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) and Coast
Guard coach Pete Barry, earned
additional accolades, being named men's Rookie and Coach of the
Year for the Northeast Region, respectively.
Barry helped Coast Guard capture the NEWMAC tournament
championship and advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
Coast Guard junior Craig Johnson (Medford, Ore.)
was named to the Second team All-Region and senior
Al Sowers (Monrovia, Md.) was
named to the Third team.
MIT senior Jimmy Bartolotta (Littleton, Colo.)
was the only NEWMAC player named to the First team All-Region.
Bartolotta, who led the NEWMAC in scoring this season at 23.9
points per game, was a member of the First team All-Conference, is
a finalist for the Jostens Trophy and was named to the ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-America First team.
Coppola, the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, was named to the Third
team All-Region in addition to his Rookie of the Year selection. As
a freshman, Coppola is the only underclassman on any of the three
All-Northeast Region teams.
WPI senior Antoine Coleman (Everett, Mass.),
the NEWMAC Player of the Year, rounded out the NEWMAC honorees,
earning Third team accolades. Coleman helped lead WPI to the NEWMAC
regular season crown and a bid in the NCAA tournament.
Bartolotta, Coleman, Johnson and Sowers were all NEWMAC First
team All-Conference selections this year, while Coppola was named
to the Second team.
