Mar 5, 2009NEWMAC Teams Prepare for NCAA Tournament Play![]() BABSON PARK, Mass. - A trio of teams from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will be competing in the opening rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments this weekend. NEWMAC champions Babson and MIT earned the conference's automatic bids to the Women's and Men's Tournaments, respectively. Men's Regular season champion, WPI, will also join MIT in the bracket. The Babson women will travel to Amherst College to face the Lady Jeffs in a first round match-up on Friday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m. Amherst earned an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to Bowdoin College in the NESCAC Championship. The winner of that game will move on to face the winner of Emmanuel and Southern Maine on Saturday evening. Video of Babson's game can be found at https://www.amherst.edu/athletics/jeffcast. Also on Friday, the MIT men's basketball team play at Rhode Island College (RIC) at 6:00 p.m. The Engineers are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history, spanning over 100 years. RIC had won 14 straight games before falling to UMass-Dartmouth in the Little East Championship last weekend. The winner on Friday night will advance to face the winner of the match-up between Farmingdale State and the University of New England on Saturday. The Engineers will host First and Second Round games at the Harrington Auditorium. WPI welcomes Husson, the champions of the NAC, on Friday at 6:00 p.m. That game is followed by UMass-Dartmouth versus Baruch, with the winners of Friday's contests meeting Saturday night.
