Jan 28, 2010 Wheaton Basketball Teams to Assist in Haitian Relief Efforts NORTON, Mass. - In light of the tragic earthquake that hit Haiti
on January 12, the Wheaton College men's and women's basketball
teams are planning to assist in the relief efforts by setting up a
voluntary gate during this Saturday's doubleheader in Emerson
Gymnasium. The Office of Service, Spirituality and Social
Responsibility (SSSR) will staff the doors.
The Lyon men begin action at 1:00 p.m. against New England Women's
and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield College and
will be followed at 3:00 p.m. by the women facing the United States
Coast Guard Academy.
Proceeds from the fundraiser, which is just one of many organized
campus-wide events, will go to Partners In Health (PIH), which is
headquartered in Boston. Founded in 1987, PIH aids such
causes as providing free health care and education for the poor
around the globe.
Those who are unable to attend Saturday's games but would like to
support the relief fund can make contributions on the Wheaton page
of the PIH site at http://act.pih.org/page/outreach/view/haitiearthquake/wheatoncollegehaiti
