PHOENIX, Ariz. - Springfield College head men's basketball coach Charlie Brock has been named the recipient of the 2018 Glenn Robinson Award, which is presented annually to the top Division III coach in the nation.
Brock guided Springfield College to its deepest run in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship to earn the honor given annually to the top coach at that level.
A Division III head coach for 38 seasons, Brock has led three different collegiate programs to NCAA tournament berths, most recently guiding Springfield to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Final Four. The D3hoops.com Northeast Coach of the Year led Springfield to a 22-9 record, including eight wins over teams that at one time were receiving votes in the national poll. The Pride reeled off four NCAA postseason wins, including three over programs ranked in the top 25 nationally. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season champions, Springfield finished the season ranked No. 4 in the final D3hoops.com National Poll.
Glenn Robinson, who is the winningest coach in Division III history, won his 900th game on Jan. 9, 2016 and was second Division III coach to spend 1,000 games on the sidelines. He's directed the Diplomats to 23 NCAA tournament appearances, 42 tournament victories, 16 trips to the Sweet 16 and Final Four visits in 1979, 1991, 1996, 2000 and 2009.
Earlier this week, Brock was named the president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) at annual NABC convention, held in conjunction with the 2018 NCAA® Division I Men's Final Four®. A long-time member of the NABC board as a representative of NCAA Division III, Brock was the recipient of the NABC Guardians of the Game Award for advocacy in 2016 for his commitment to college basketball and the coaching profession. The former chair of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee, he was instrumental in the creation and promotion of the Reese's® Division III All-Star game, held annually during the NCAA Division III championships, and is the facilitator of the Springfield College Pride's Literacy Awards program, which promotes the importance of reading to children, targeting first through third grades.
