MIT Junior Jimmy Bartolotta Named NEWMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Bartolotta enjoyed a sensational opening week to the 2007-08 season, averaging 28.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.3 steals in four games (3-1). In a season-opening loss against Western Connecticut in the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament, Bartolotta scored 24 points while collecting nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. Since the loss, Bartolotta has paced MIT to three straight wins, beginning with a strong effort in the Engineers' 76-70 victory at Emmanuel. He led all scorers with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while adding six boards and three assists. On Tuesday, Bartolotta posted the highest single-game scoring total for an MIT player in 27 years as he closed 16-of-21 from the field en route to a career-high 38 points. He added five rebounds, eight assists and three steals as MIT won at Curry, 101-77. Bartolotta capped the week by posting 22 points in limited minutes in the home-opener against Suffolk. Bartolotta dished out six assists in an 83-51 win, while grabbing four rebounds and making three steals. His first basket of the game marked his 1,000 career point, as he became the 22nd player in the history of the program to reach the offensive milestone. Besides posting terrific numbers, Bartolotta was efficient in the opening stretch of the campaign, shooting .614% (43-of-70) from the floor including .556% (10-of-18) from three-point range.
