Coast Guard Men Advance to NCAA Elite Eight with 57-48 Win Over Rochester

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Coast Guard senior guard Al Sowers scored a team-high 15 points as the United States Coast Guard Academy (24-6) advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight with a 57-48 win over the University of Rochester on Friday night at Ursinus College's Helfferich Hall.

The Bears, who are in the NCAA tournament for the second straight season, will advance to play the winner of Gettysburg-Ursinus on Saturday night at 7 for the right to advance to the Final Four in Salem, Virginia.

Junior forward Craig Johnson added in 12 points, as the Bears held Rochester to just 32 percent (8-for-25) from the field in the second half.

For the Yellowjackets, senior guard Robert Dominiak and senior center Jon Onyiriuka each scored a team-high 15 points.

Coast Guard, who won its third straight game on the road, sealed the game with a 18-1 run over a span over 10:13 in the second half. The Bears were trailing 39-34 at the start of the run with 13:15 left and held Rochester to just three field goals in the final 13:15.

Coast Guard held a 36-34 advantage on the glass, with senior forward Jeff Prebeck grabbing 11. Onyiriuka had 11 for the Yellowjackets.
