NEWMAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week
Jack Pope, Coast Guard (Sophomore, San Diego, California)
Sophomore Jack Pope led the Bears to a 2-0 week including a win over nine time defending Conference champion Springfield, compiling nine points on eight goals and one assist. In the Bears 9-8 victory over the Pride, Pope notched his fifth hat trick of the season, including two key second half goals. Coast Guard became only the third team since 2006 to beat Springfield during the conference regular season. Springfield also had never lost a home game in NEWMAC play. In the Bears 18-6 win over Emerson, Pope had a game high six points with five goals and an assist. In the game he became the all time career leader in goals and the first 50 goals scorer in program history.
NEWMAC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week
Drew Riopelle-Tyrrell, Clark (Senior, Northville, Mich.)
Riopelle-Tyrrell was excellent in between the pipes for the Cougars as they went 2-0 and extended their winning streak to six straight games. In a 12-6 win over Massachusetts Maritime, Riopelle-Tyrell stopped eight shots and added a caused turnover and a groundball. Then, in the historic 14-9 win over Babson, Riopelle-Tyrell was in total control, finishing with 11 saves, five groundballs and a career-best four turnovers.
