Michael Allshouse Collects Academic All-America Accolades

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selections on Monday, and for the third consecutive year, an MIT men's soccer player was honored as senior defender Michael Allshouse was named to the Second Team. The Highland Village, Texas native becomes just the fourth player in program history to elicit the prestigious honor.

A three-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference honoree, Allshouse anchored an Engineers defense which conceded just 19 goals in 16 matches this season for a sparkling 1.13 goals-against-average. The tri-captain served as an integral part of Tech's five shutouts, which tied for the most in the NEWMAC and was the second highest single-season total in program history.

Allshouse's fellow tri-captain Andrew Bishara was also honored, as the junior forward earned Second Team All-District accolades. The native of Toledo, Ohio led the Engineers in assists with four, while also placing second in goals (5) and points (14).

Allshouse joins the elite company of Ryan Sheffler, Nick Nestle and Rory Foster as the Cardinal and Gray's only CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees. Sheffler remains the only MIT men's soccer player to garner First Team honors, as he did so in 2005 and 2006. Nestle copped Third Team accolades in 2002 and Second Team honors in 2003, while Foster was a Second Team selection in 2003.
