Dec 20, 2007 Wheaton's Senior Captains Draw All-New England Laurels for First Time NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer senior midfielder
Trevor Cote (Portsmouth, RI/Providence Country Day
School) was named to the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas NCAA Division III All-New
England third team, as the co-captain drew the first regional
accolade of his career.
Cote's selection gave Wheaton an all-region honoree for the 14th
consecutive season, dating back to 1994. He was one of four New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) athletes
among 44 named to the NSCAA's four teams, as all four landed on the
third squad.
A three-time NEWMAC All-Conference pick, Cote notched four goals
and two assists in 22 games for the Lyons this season. Three of his
markers stood as game-winners, and his veteran presence was
important for a team that had nine freshmen appear in at least 14
games.
All four of Cote's goals gave Wheaton the lead, including during
the Lyons' 2-0 victory over Bridgewater State College on November 7
in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Cote netted the first
goal of a 2-1 win against Babson College on October 20 that allowed
the Blue and White to clinch the NEWMAC regular season title.
Wheaton went 14-6-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the NEWMAC this fall,
winning both its seventh regular season and tournament crowns. The
Lyons made their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, including their
seventh in the last eight seasons.
