Oct 3, 2007 Former Wheaton Men's Soccer Duo Draws USL All-League Honors, Antoniuk Also Among Final Two Considered for MVP NORTON, MA- Two former Wheaton College men's soccer players
recently drew all-league attention from their respective divisions
of the United Soccer Leagues (USL), as Dan Antoniuk
'03 and James Greenslit '06 were honored
for their outstanding play during the 2007 season. Antoniuk was
also among the final two players considered for the most valuable
player award in his league.
Antoniuk, a member of the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL First
Division, which is the top minor league rung below Major League
Soccer (MLS), was one of three forwards named to the USL-1
All-League first team. He paced the league with 23 points and nine
assists while tying for seventh with seven goals. Antoniuk led
Atlanta to a 12-9-7 finish, as the Silverbacks placed fourth in the
regular season before advancing to the league championship game,
where they ultimately came up short.
A National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
All-America selection in 1999 and a three-time All-New England and
New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
all-league pick, Antoniuk continues to hold Wheaton's career points
(144) and goals (54) records. He stands second in assists (36) and
is still first in program history for single-season points (49) and
goals (18).
Greenslit was one of four defenders named to the USL Second
Division second team, as the New Hampshire Phantoms back was one of
only four players in the league to appear in all 1,800 minutes this
summer. Greenslit committed only 10 fouls in 20 games and aided a
defense that yielded 1.7 goals per game. New Hampshire went 3-12-5
but suffered seven one-goal losses.
As a Lyon, Greenslit appeared in 81 games in the Wheaton backfield
from 2002-05, leading the squad to three NCAA Tournaments,
including the Final Four in 2003, and two NEWMAC Tournament titles.
The three-time NSCAA All-America, all-region and all-conference
player was honored for his defensive prowess as the NEWMAC Player
of the Year in each of his final two seasons.
