BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 Men's Soccer post-season
award winners on Tuesday. Wheaton junior, Yuri
Moreira (Marlboro, Mass.), was tabbed as the NEWMAC
Athlete of the Year while Eric Anderson (Scituate,
Mass.) of Babson was named Rookie of the Year. After helping lead
Babson to the NEWMAC Regular season and Tournament crowns,
Jon Anderson was selected as the Coach of the
Year. WPI received the league's Sportsmanship Award for the third
straight year.
In addition to Moreira, teammates Josh Solomon
(Acton, Mass.) and David Ferriero (Medway, Mass.)
were named to the First Team All-Conference, giving Wheaton a
league-high three selections. Anderson was one of two Babson
representatives on the First Team, along with Dan
Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.). Coast Guard and MIT
also had a pair of First Team honorees. Tim
Olah (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Nick
Devine (Rocky Hill, N.J.) of Coast Guard as well as
Zachary Kabelac (Potomac, Md.) and
Christian Therkelsen (Nesbru, NORWAY) from MIT
garnered First Team honors. Kenny Howard
(Longmeadow, Mass.) of Clark and WPI's Tommy
Zajac (Merrimack, N.H.) rounded out the squad.
