NEWMAC Announces 2009 Men’s Tennis Post-Season Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 men's tennis award winners on Tuesday. NEWMAC Tournament Champion, MIT, led the way with a league-high six All-Conference selections, as well as the Rookie of the Year, Samuel Harmatz (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.). Alex Kamergorodsky (Millis, Mass.) was named the Player of the Year after helping lead Babson to a runner-up finish in the Conference Tournament. Coast Guard's Jim Hazlin was tabbed as the Coach of the Year and the Bears also received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Kamergorodsky and Harmatz earned First Team All-Conference nods at No. 1 and No. 4 Singles, respectively. Harmatz also had a pair of teammates on the First Team, as Ken Van Tilburg (Kapellen, BELGIUM) at No. 2 Singles and Peden Nichols (Great Falls, Va.) at No. 5 Singles garnered accolades. Chris Pappe (Kenosha, Wis.) of Coast Guard was a First Team selection at No. 3 Singles and Springfield's Eric Henne (Bristol, Conn.) earned a spot at No. 6 Singles.

MIT swept the First Team picks in Doubles as Van Tilburg and Kevin Pang (Torrance, Calif.) were the No. 1 team. Harmatz and Nichols in the No. 3 slot, as well as David Iba (Lexington, Mass.) and Brian Wee (Woodbury, N.Y.) at No. 2, were also First Team honorees.
