Springfield's Hay Named Top Field Athlete in New England by USTFCCCA; Mangiacotti and Rose Earn Coaching Accolades

Babson Park, Mass.-Springfield sophomore Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III New England Region Field Athlete of the Year. In addition to Hay, two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) coaches were honored by the USTFCCCA. Coast Guard head coach Dan Rose received the award for Men's Head Coach of the Year in New England. Wheaton assistant Marc Mangiacotti was named the National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, in addition to being named the top assistant in New England, earlier in the week. 

Hay earned First team All-Conference honors in the long jump and triple jump. She will compete in the triple jump at this weekend's NCAA Championship in Oshkosh, Wis. Mangiacotti, whose primary responsibilities are spring, hurdles and relays, helped Wheaton capture this year's NEWMAC Women's Track & Field Championship. Five Wheaton sprinters are scheduled to take part in the Division III NCAA Championship this weekend. Rose's Coast Guard squad finished second in this year's NEWMAC Championship meet. Two Coast Guard student-athletes, seniors Steve Blum (Farmington, Conn.) and Chris Hunt (Richardson, Texas), qualified for this weekend's NCAA Division III Championship.

The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin today, Thursday, May 22, and run through Saturday. They are hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh.
