NEWMAC Student-Athletes Receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
The USTFCCCA announced its 2008 Cross Country All-Academic Team and the NEWMAC had 13 student-athletes qualified for the honor. In addition, eight NEWMAC teams received accolades.

NEWMAC Announces 2008 Men’s Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2008 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Coast Guard coach Steve Eldridge was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year. Eldridge’s Bears finished as the runners-up at the NEWMAC championship held Saturday. The Bears also received the league’s Sportsmanship Award.

Babson Freshman Kyle Fitzpatrick Named NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Fitzpatrick returned from injury to lead Babson to a third-place finish at the Emmanual College Invitational at Franklin Park on Friday afternoon. In his first race since September 20, Fitzpatrick posted a stellar time of 26:28 to finish second out of 85 competitors.

Arumugam led the way for MIT at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals in Hanover, Ind. He finished the eight-kilometer course in 26:08, placing 12th overall out of 230 runners.

Springfield Senior Mike Griffin Named NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Griffin finished sixth this weekend at the Purple Valley Classic out of a field of 205 runners. Leading Springfield to a seventh-place finish overall, Griffin had an average mile time of 5:22 as he completed the 8k course in 26:39.

Mike placed 8th overall (25:18) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational leading Coast Guard to a second place finish of the 38 teams, a field that included all seven NEWMAC teams.

Arumugam paced MIT to victory in the Engineer's Cup at Franklin Park this weekend, crossing the finish line in 26:33. His 13 second victory helped lead MIT to a team first place finish over RPI and NEWAMC foe WPI.
