MIT Men Capture NEWMAC Cross Country ChampionshipBOSTON, Mass. - For the second consecutive year, MIT swept the men's and women's races to capture the 2008 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships Saturday morning at Franklin Park. The men have now won every NEWMAC championship since the league's inception, a streak that stands at 11. This was the fifth NEWMAC title for the women. On the men's side, each of the Engineers' top five runners was in the top nine, giving them a 13-point victory over second-place Coast Guard. Jake Ruzevick was the individual winner for the second year in a row with a time of 25:25.29. Andrew Erickson was the top first year finisher, earning Rookie of the Year honors with a time of 26:16.90, good for 10th overall. In the women's race, MIT placed five runners in the top eight for a total of 27 points, giving them a 50-point victory over second place Wheaton. Jacqui Wentz finished the five-kilometer course in 18:28.86 to capture Runner of the Year honors. Janice O'Brien was the first freshman to finish the race (8th overall), crossing the finish line at 19:04.18, to capture the Rookie of the Year award. Men's
