NEWMAC Announces 2009 Softball Post-Season Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 softball award winners on Tuesday. Two days after helping lead Springfield to the conference Tournament Championship, Michelle Wlosek (Nutley, N.J.) was selected as the NEWMAC Player of Year. Her coach, Kathy Mangano was also named Coach of the Year. Coast Guard freshman Hayley Feindel (River Ridge, La.) earned both the Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards while MIT received the league's Sportsmanship Award.

Regular season Champions, Coast Guard, had a league-high five All-Conference honorees, including three on the First Team. In addition to Feindel, Amanda Frederick (Lebanon, Ohio) and Courtney Wolf (Fredericksburg, Md.) were named to the First Team. Jeannie Crump (Roseville, Calif.) and Annette Boston (Oceanside, Calif.) were Second Team picks. Wlosek's teammate Samantha Rhodes (Mendon, Mass.) was tabbed for the First Team as well. Other First Team nods included Babson junior Danielle Liska (Seymour, Conn.), Clark's Lauren Blake (Oakland, Maine), and Megan Wood (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Barbarajean Grundlock (Blackwood, N.J.) of Wellesley.

Springfield had two additional selections to the Second Team, Angela Atkins (East Haddam, Conn.) and Aimee Cassella (Southington, Conn.). Megan Kiefer (Oak Park, Ill.) from Smith, Allie Hardy (Townsend, Mass.) of WPI, Wellesley senior Amanda Tai (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Alison Davis (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), and Wheaton senior Stacey Kelleher (Brockton, Mass.) rounded out the All-Conference Team.
