  • MIT Softball Honored With NFCA New England Coaching Staff of the Year Award

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After winning the Cambridge Regional, the Williamstown Super Regional and finishing seventh at the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma two weeks ago, the MIT softball coaching staff has been named as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) New England Coaching Staff of the Year. This is the second time in three seasons that head coach Jen Williams and her staff have been honored with this award.
  • Four NEWMAC Softball Student-Athletes Garner Google Cloud Academic All-America Honors

    AUSTIN, Texas (June 5, 2018) - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) saw a total of four softball student-athletes garner Google Cloud Academic All-America honors last week. MIT's Katie Shade took home First Team honors while her teammate Sarah Von Ahn claimed Second Team accolades. Springfield's Kirsten Drobiak and WPI's Ama Biney were selected as Third Team honorees. Shade, Von Ahn and Drobiak received this honor for the first time in their career while Biney earned her second Academic All-America nod.
  • WPI's Biney and MIT's Nasser Collect NFCA All-America Honors

    OKLAHOMA CITY — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 45 players chosen for the 2018 NFCA NCAA Division III All-America softball teams this week. Those selected were honored Wednesday night during the NCAA Division III Championship banquet at the Sheraton Hotel Downtown in Oklahoma City. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) was proud to see two student-athletes represented as WPI's Ama Biney garnered First Team honors while MIT's Ravenne Nasser took home Third Team honors.
  • No. 20 Softball Finishes Season Seventh at NCAA Division III Championship

    The Lead: The MIT softball team saw its run in the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament come to a close this afternoon as the Engineers were edged by No. 21 Ithaca College by a 3-2 score in eight innings in Oklahoma City.
  • No. 20 MIT Falls to No. 16 Luther, 6-3, in NCAA Softball Championship Opener

    The Lead: Trailing 5-0, the No. 20 MIT softball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth but ultimately fell to No. 16 Luther College, 6-3, in the opening game for both teams at the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Oklahoma City. The Engineers will now play No. 21 Ithaca College in an elimination game tomorrow at 11:00 am, while the Norse will play No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University in the winner's bracket tomorrow at 7:00 pm. 
  • SUPER REGIONAL CHAMPS! MIT Softball Comes From Behind to Defeat Williams in Super Regional Finale

    The Lead: For the second time in three seasons, the MIT softball team has won a Super Regional Championship and has advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championship, which will take place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma next week as the 20th-ranked Engineers came from behind to defeat No. 12 Williams, 7-5, on Sunday afternoon at the Williamstown Super Regional.
  • No. 20 MIT & No. 12 Williams Split Super Regional Doubleheader on Friday

    The Lead: On the opening day of the 2018 Williamstown Super Regional, the No. 20 MIT softball team split two games with No. 12 Williams College to force a winner take all game three, which is scheduled for Sundayafternoon at a time to be determined later. The Engineers took game one, 4-2, before being edged by the Ephs, 1-0, in the nightcap.
  • SUPER REGIONAL BOUND: No. 20 MIT Wins Regional Title With 7-0 Victory Over No. 18 Tufts

    The Lead: After falling to Tufts University, 2-1, in game six of the 2018 NCAA Division IIII Cambridge Regional Tournament, the MIT softball team blanked the Jumbos, 7-0, in a winner take all game to win the regional title for the second time in three seasons. With the win, the Engineers improve to 36-8-1 and advance to the NCAA Super Regional next weekend and will take Williams College at a site to be determined later. Tufts sees its season come to a close with a 32-10 record.
  • No. 20 MIT Tosses No-Hitter in NCAA Tournament Opener Against Framingham State

    The Lead: MIT junior Ravenne Nasser (Methuen, Mass.) and freshman Colleen Campbell (Snoqualmie, Wash.) combined to throw a no-hitter in the Engineers 2-0 win over Framingham State University on the opening day of the Cambridge Regional in the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. With the win, MIT improves to 34-7-1 and will face No. 18 Tufts University tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. in the winner's bracket, while Framingham State will play UMass-Boston in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2018 Softball Postseason Awards

    WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2018 Softball All-Conference team and major award winners on Tuesday morning. After hurling an impressive 18-4 record in the circle, MIT's Ravenne Nasser was named the Pitcher of the Year. WPI's Ama Biney earned Athlete of the Year honors while her teammate Marissa Gonzales was voted Rookie of the Year after the pair helped pave WPI to a 29-13 record. 
  • MIT Selected To Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 7) – For the first time in program history, MIT will be the host site for one of 16 NCAA Division III Softball Championship regionals as announced on Monday afternoon via the 2018 NCAA.com selection show. Scheduled for May 11-13, the nationally-ranked Engineers will welcome Framingham State University, Tufts University and UMass-Boston to Cambridge for the double elimination tournament.
  • No. 18 MIT Walks Off In Eighth Inning to Win First-Ever NEWMAC Title

    The Lead: For the second-straight day the No. 18 MIT Softball team walked off with a win, but this time the win resulted in the team's first-ever New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship as the Engineers defeated third-seeded Babson College, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge. With the victory, MIT has earned the league's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament and will find out who they will be playing and where they will playing tomorrow afternoon when the bracket is revealed at 1:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
  • MIT Forces Winner Take All Game With 2-0 Day Highlighted by Walk Off Win Against Babson

    The Lead: The top-seeded MIT softball team defeated second-seeded WPI, 6-0, in an elimination game at noon before walking off against third-seeded Babson College, 2-1, in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship series to force a winner take all game tomorrow between MIT and Babson tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
  • NEWMAC Softball Championship Day Two Complete, Babson Remains Unbeaten

    The third-seeded Babson College Beavers edged No. 18 MIT in eight innings in the winner's bracket game, 3-0, on the second day of the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Tournament in Cambridge. Babson will now await the winner of tomorrow's elimination game between MIT and WPI and will need only one win to take home its second straight conference championship. The elimination game is slated for noon and the winner of that game will take on Babson at 2:00 p.m.
  • No. 18 MIT Opens NEWMAC Tournament With 1-0 Win Over Springfield; Pride top Coast Guard in Game One

    The Lead: The MIT softball team, ranked No. 18 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Poll, No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division III New England regional rankings and the top-seed in the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, earned a hard fought 1-0 win over Springfield College on the opening day postseason play. In the first game of the day, fourth-seeded Springfield topped fifth-seeded Coast Guard, 6-5. Springfield came into today's game as the No. 9 team in the region, while Coast Guard is No. 10.
  • Babson Defeats Emerson and WPI in Opening Day of NEWMAC Softball Championship

    WORCESTER, Mass. – On the opening day of the 2018 NEWMAC Softball Championship Babson earned two victories over Emerson and WPI as they move on to face top seeded MIT on Friday. WPI and Emerson stay allve in the double elimination championship and will also compete on Friday.
  • WPI's Biney and Kuberka Claim NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Biney hit .600 with a triple, two runs, a walk, sac fly and stolen base while successfully fielding both chances in a split with regionally-ranked Bowdoin Saturday. Kuberka was second on the team with 4 2/3 innings pitched, appeared in both games and earned the save in the split with regionally-ranked Bowdoin Saturday.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2018 Softball Academic All-Conference, 43 Honored

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is pleased to announce the 2018 Softball Academic All-Conference Team. The NEWMAC softball student-athletes totaled 43 honorees this year.
  • MIT's Goetz and Springfield's Loda Claim NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    In an 8-0 week for the MIT softball team, sophomore Devon Goetz batted .458, registered three home runs, scored 11 runs and also tallied 11 hits, one double, one triple, three walks and three stolen bases. Talia Loda, a senior pitcher for Springfield College, was dominant in her four appearances this week, as she pitched 22.0 innings, picking up three wins, 12 strikeouts, and producing an ERA of 0.95.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2018 Softball Championship Bracket, MIT Earns Top Seed

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the seeds for the 2018 NEWMAC Softball Championship on Saturday afternoon. Clinching the top seed as well as the regular season title, MIT (17-1), has earned hosting rights heading into the opening day. Also earning hosting rights on day one is WPI who earned the No. 2 seed finishing the regular season at 15-3. 
  • Emerson's DeFusco and Babson's Reilly Earn NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    DeFusco had an impressive showing over her six games this past week as the Lions went 5-1 with three conference wins. Reilly was superb in five appearances going 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 30.0 innings pitched.
  • WPI's Wood and MIT's Campbell Earn NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Wood returned to the lineup and batted .714 (5-for-7) with a pair of doubles Saturday, including 3-for-3 and the game-winning RBI hit in game two, as the Engineers swept No. 20 Babson. MIT freshman pitcher Colleen Campbell had an outstanding week for the Engineers as she guided the team to a 4-0 week, which were all NEWMAC victories.
  • WPI's LeClaire and MIT's Nasser Garner NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    LeClaire batted .529 with a slugging percentage of .765 and an on-base percentage of .550, as well as three extra base hits,  two doubles, and one triple in a 5-1 week. MIT junior pitcher Ravenne Nasser aided the Engineers to a 5-2-1 week which featured three conference wins including a 3-0 shutout victory over No. 19 Babson and a 6-6 tie against No. 16 Rowan.
  • WPI's Gonzales and MIT's Campbell Earn NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Gonzales batted .714 (5-for-7) with eight RBI and four runs scored, as well as an eye-popping 1.571 slugging percentage as a result of hitting for the cycle over the course of Saturday's NEWMAC split at Emerson. In just her second collegiate start, MIT freshman pitcher Colleen Campbell threw a no-hitter in the second game of a NEWMAC doubleheader against Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
  • Springfield's Drobiak and Coast Guard's Arendt Claim NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    Kirsten Drobiak, a senior infielder for Springfield College, had quite the week for the Pride, leading the maroon and white to a record of 7-1 in Florida as part of their Spring Break trip. Freshman Sydney Arendt went 2-0 including her first complete game as she led the Bears to a 3-1 week.
  • WPI's May and Emerson's Eddleston Garner NEWMAC Weekly Honors
    March 12, 2018
    May led the Engineers with a .500 batting average and 13 RBI in an 8-2 week. Neely Eddleston started the season great in the circle for the Lions over spring break.
  • MIT's Von Ahn and Babson's Paul, Reilly Earn NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    MIT sophomore Sarah Von Ahn led the Engineers to a 4-2 weekend at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Arizona. Paul batted .500 (10-for-20) with a double, four runs and 12 RBI while producing three multi-hit games over the weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Arizona. Reilly went 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 13 strikeouts in three appearances over the weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Arizona.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2018 Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll, Babson Named Favorites

    WESTWOOD, Mass - The New Engand Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2018 Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday morning. After a riveting 2017 NEWMAC Championship run, claiming the programs first crown since 2006, the Babson Beavers have been selected as the preseason favorites heading into 2018 with six first place votes. Voting for the preseason poll is conducted by the 10 softball coaches.
