Nov 7, 2006 NEWMAC Announces 2006 Volleyball All-Conference Team SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.-- Coast Guard senior Christine
Rostowsfske (Walnut, Calif.) claimed 2006 NEWMAC
Volleyball Player of the Year honors Tuesday afternoon after
guiding the Bears to their first league title. Her coach,
Patty Giannattasio, was named by her peers as the
2006 NEWMAC Coach of the Year, while M.I.T.'s Alex
Day (Des Moines, Iowa) was voted as the league's Rookie of
the Year.
Rostowfske finished the season as the NEWMAC leader in assists
(12.6 per game) and ranked eighth in service aces (0.62). May
averaged 3.51 kills and 0.82 blocks for the Engineers as a rookie,
while Giannattasio led Coast Guard to a 23-2 mark and its
first-ever NEWMAC championship this fall as well as the top seed in
the NCAA Division III New England Regional.
Smith College was named as the inaugural Sportsmanship Award
winner as voted on by the volleyball players at each conference
member institution.
Joining Rostowfske on the first team all-NEWMAC squad are
teammate Nicole Gurr, M.I.T.'s Amanda
Morris, Springfield's Leah Hettrick and
MaryKathryn O'Neil as well as Wellesley's
Laura Ackerman. May was joined on the NEWMAC
second team by teammate Frances Rogoz, Coast
Guard's Corinne McCormack, Mount Holyoke's
Emily Groth and Smith's Sara
Hoffman and Catherine Shafer.
