Patch Named Head Volleyball Coach at WPI

Worcester, MA - WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics, Dana L. Harmon, announced that Gary Patch has been hired as Head Women's Volleyball Coach. Patch replaces Nancy Vaskas, who recently retired after 26 seasons.

Patch arrives at WPI after serving last year as the boys and the girls varsity coach at Framingham High School. Prior to that, he was the head girls coach at Ursuline Academy where he helped the Bears reach the MIAA Division III South Sectional Championships in 2003. Patch also worked as a consultant and assistant for the boys and girls programs at Natick High School from 2001-2004.

"We are thrilled Gary will be joining out staff," said Harmon. "He brings a wealth of experience and accomplishments in the sport of volleyball and we are looking forward to him leading our women's program."

Patch also has extensive experience at the club volleyball level. He has been involved with Smash Volleyball, a Junior Olympic girls under 18 elite travel team for four years. The team was ranked number one in New England in 2003 and is currently sixth. Patch was the head coach for High Performance New England USA Volleyball Girls Youth 2006 National Team.

"I am very excited about coming to WPI," stated Patch. "I am looking forward to taking my experiences as a player and a coach to WPI. I am excited to be involved now at the collegiate level."

Patch is also an accomplished player. He has participated in the national tournament ten times and finished second at the outdoor grass nationals in San Jose, CA. He is an open rated player who has won gold medals as a setter the past three years in the master's division of the Bay State Games.

Patch is a Planner/Buyer for Boston International in Holliston and resides in South Grafton.
