Kraus Earns First Academic All-District Honor in Program History

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's volleyball standout Lauren Kraus (Westboro, MA/Westboro) became the first player in program history to draw ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District I honors, placing on the third team. Qualifiers are selected to the teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A sophomore middle hitter, Kraus was one of 20 student-athletes to receive the accolade but one of only two underclassmen. She was among four New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) representatives.

Kraus led the Lyons in kills (353), hitting percentage (.224) and blocks (98) while placing second in service aces (62) this season. Wheaton went 22-13, tallying the program's highest win total since 1997, and finished 4-5 in the NEWMAC. Kraus appeared in 127 of 128 games this fall and started all but one of the team's 35 matches.

Kraus was also a NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selection for the first time this fall, as she holds a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average. Beyond the court, the mathematics major and French minor has earned a Wheaton Presidential Award for holding at least a 3.85 GPA and has qualified for the Dean's List. Kraus is also a calculus teaching assistant and tutor.

The District I College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
