Aug 21, 2008 Sonnie Terrell Named Interim Head Volleyball Coach at Mount Holyoke SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (August 21, 2008) - The
Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics is pleased to
announce the hiring of Sonnie Terrell as its
interim head volleyball coach. Terrell succeeds Peer Nasseir, who
guided the program to a 22-53 mark in three seasons at the helm.
"We are pleased to have Sonnie on board for the coming year,"
said Mount Holyoke Director of Physical Education and Athletics,
Laurie Priest. "She brings great experience and
has the enthusiasm we need to build our program for future
success."
Prior to joining the Mount Holyoke staff, Terrell enjoyed a
two-year stint (2006-2008) as an assistant coach at Smith College.
While at Smith, she directed the non-traditional season, developed
offensive and defensive strategies, designed and directed
practices, assisted in recruiting, developed and implemented an
off-season training and conditioning program and developed scouting
reports on opponents. Terrell recently graduated from Smith with a
Master of Science Degree in Exercise and Sport Studies with an
emphasis in women's coaching.
From 2002-2006, Terrell served as an assistant coach on both the
volleyball and softball staffs at Hanover College (Ind.). In 2005,
she was the interim head coach for the softball program at the
College.
A standout student-athlete at Franklin College (Ind.), Terrell
was a four-year member (1998-2001) of the volleyball program,
serving as team captain as a senior. In 2002, she was named the
school's David C. Naile Memorial Award winner for outstanding
leadership and mental attitude as a female, senior athlete. She
also participated in softball as a first year (2000). Terrell
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education and
Physical Education from Franklin in 2002.
