BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2008 Women's Volleyball
post-season award winners on Tuesday. A few days after helping to
lead Springfield to the NEWMAC tournament championship,
Heather Lively (Royalston, Mass.) was named the
NEWMAC Athlete of the Year. Her coach, Joel
Dearing was voted the NEWMAC Coach of the Year. A
pair of freshman, Cecily
Joujon-Roche (Laguna Hills,
Calif.) of MIT and Kim Giaquinto
(Massapequa, N.Y.) from Springfield, split Rookie of the Year
honors. Mount Holyoke received the league's Sportsmanship Award
Teammate Heidi Yohe (Deer
Park, Wash.) joined Lively on the first team All-Conference. NEWMAC
runner-up, Wellesley, placed three student-athletes,
Alice Cummings (Tallahassee,
Fla.), Jessica Duff (Milton,
Abington, UK) and Emily Peters
(Temescal Valley, Calif.), on the first team. Coast Guard senior
Nicole Gurr (Acton, Calif.) and
MIT junior Alex May (Des Moines, Iowa) completed
the first team selections.
