NEWMAC Announces 2009 Womens Volleyball Post-Season Award Winners
BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 Women's Volleyball
post-season award winners on Tuesday. After capturing the NEWMAC
Tournament Championship on Saturday, Wellesley swept all of the
major individual awards as well. Senior Alice
Cummings (Tallahassee, Fla.) was named the NEWMAC Athlete
of the Year, teammate Isabel Custodio (Powell,
Ohio) took home Rookie of the Year honors and Dorothy
Webb was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year. Mount
Holyoke received the Sportsmanship Award for the third consecutive
time.
In addition to their individual accolades, Cummings and Custodio
were also placed on the First Team All-Conference. Tournament
runner-up, MIT, also had a pair of First Team selections, in
Barden Cleeland (Irvine, Calif.) and Alex
May (Des Moines, Iowa). Springfield's Sarah
Lang-Rodean (Mansfield Center, Conn.) and Heather
Lively (Royalston, Mass.) as well as
Keriann Mason (Highland Park,
Calif.) of Coast Guard rounded out the First Team honorees.
