MIT Senior Carrie Buchanan named NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

In a 6-0 week for MIT, Carrie Buchanan earned Tournament MVP honors as she helped power the Engineers to their third consecutive MIT Invitational Championship. She posted 11 digs each in sweeps over UMass-Dartmouth (30-20, 30-15, 30-19) and WPI (30-7, 30-7, 30-13) on Tuesday. Buchanan continued the trend in the opening match of the MIT Invitational against Bowdoin College (30-22, 30-23, 30-15) and then registered 12 digs versus Wesleyan University (30-26, 30-21, 30-15). In the semifinal match against Williams College (30-17, 32-34, 30-22, 26-30, 15-13) she broke the Institute record for digs in a match with 51, eclipsing the previous mark of 38, and became the ninth person in NCAA Division III history to surpass the 50-dig mark in a five-game match. Buchanan finished the weekend with 12 digs in the title tilt with Tufts University (30-25, 30-18, 30-20). For the week, she totaled 108 digs and seven aces to average 5.40 digs and 0.35 service aces per game.
