NEWMAC Basketball Teams will “Play 4 Kay” in February
WELLESLEY, Mass. – With national Breast Cancer Awareness month beginning on Wednesday, a number of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) basketball teams will once again join in the fight against this deadly disease during February’s “Play 4 Kay” initiative, sponsored by the Kay Yow Cancer fund and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
NEWMAC teams will participate in a variety of outreach, awareness and fundraising opportunities, as many teams will wear pink warm-up shirts and shoelaces during their games, encouraging fans to wear pink and collecting donations to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer fund.
“Play 4 Kay” is named in memory of legendary women’s basketball coach, Kay Yow, who lost her battle with cancer on January 24, 2009, but not before impacting the lives of countless student-athletes and uniting thousands in the fight against women’s cancers.
“Play 4Kay” is a global, unified effort for a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is the official Play 4Kay charity.
