USCGA Sophomore Melissa Martinelli Named to D3HOOPS.COM Team of the Week

NEW LONDON, CONN.--Coast Guard sophomore forward Melissa Martinelli was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Thursday.       

D3hoops.com names five players each week from around the nation to its team of the week, two guards, two forwards and a center.

Martinelli had a huge week as the Bears extended their winning streak to a school-record tying six straight. Coast Guard, which won its school-record seventh straight last night, is off to its best start ever with a 14-2 record overall and 6-0 mark in the NEWMAC.

Last week, she averaged 26 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor (20-for-30) and 92.3 percent from the foul line (12-for-13).

Martinelli, who is second in the conference in scoring with 17.1 points per game, had a career-high 32 points to go with 15 rebounds in a double-overtime win at Clark while also scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a win at defending NEWMAC tournament champion Mount Holyoke.
