The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference

Babson Park, Mass. - The New England Women and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2008 Women's Lacrosse Post-season awards on Tuesday. Babson senior Anita Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Teammate Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. Vanessa Cox of MIT earned Coach of the Year honors, while Mount Holyoke received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship award.

Martignetti and Macary helped lead Babson to the NEWMAC regular season and tournament championships, as well as a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. In addition to player of the year honors, Martignetti was named to the First team All-Conference. She was joined on the first team by teammates Brianne Carlson (Wolfeboro, N.H.), Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.), Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.). Also named to the first team were Sara Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of Smith, Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.), Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) and Meghan Wisell (South Burlington, Vt.) of Springfield, Haley Geller (Berkeley, Calif.) and Loretta White (Northampton, Mass.) of Wellesley, and Meredith Hurd (Bath, Maine) from Wheaton.

The Second team All-Conference was made up of Casey Flynn (Silver Spring, Md.), Samantha O'Keefe (Carlisle, Mass.) and Laura Watson (Bethpage, N.Y.) of MIT, Ava Gottschall (Amherst, Mass.) and Peggy Wefald (Granger, Ind.) from Mount Holyoke, Caitlin Kennedy (South Hadley, Mass.) and Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from Smith, Meagan Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) of Springfield, Dee Garrahan (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Colette Whitaker (Great Falls, Va.) of Wellesley, and Sara Dimick (Cumberland, Maine) and Caitlin Grant (Walpole, Mass.) of Wheaton.
