NEWMAC Announces Women’s Lacrosse Postseason Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2012 women’s lacrosse All-Conference team and postseason award recipients on Tuesday afternoon. Wheaton College senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H.) was selected as the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, after leading the conference in goals and points and helping Wheaton to a 4-2 record in league play. Wheaton coach Emily Kiablick was voted as the Coach of the Year. Wellesley’s Claire Canty (East Rockaway, N.Y.) was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and Mount Holyoke College received the league’s Sportsmanship Award.

Joining Colburn on the first team all-conference were teammates Devon Soucier (Avon, Conn.) and Katie Powers (Ashburnham, Mass.). NEWMAC tournament champions, Springfield College, had three players selected to the first team. Last year’s NEWMAC Player of the Year, Jackie Moscardelli (Weymouth, Mass.) was joined by Meghan Flanagan (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.).

Regular season champion and tournament runner-up, Babson College, had a league-best five first team All-Conference honorees. Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.), Julie Baharestani (Syosset, N.Y.), Misha Beatty (Westwood, Mass.), Erin Daley (Darien, Conn.) and Jameson Spang (Kennebunk, Maine) were recognized. Canty, the Rookie of the Year, was also a first team honoree.
