Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) earned an ESPN The
Magazine Academic College Division All-District I honor for
the third straight season, landing on the second team after
receiving a third-team nod the previous two years. Qualifiers are
selected to the teams by the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).
The senior, a two-year captain, has started 17 of the 18 games in
which she played this fall while helping Wheaton post a 19-0-1
overall mark heading into this weekend's New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament semifinals. Davis has
been the anchor of a backfield that pushed the Lyons to 13 shutouts
and a 0.39 goals against average. On the offensive side of the
ball, Davis has contributed career highs of three goals, all on
penalty kicks, and 10 assists. In her first three seasons, she
totaled five goals and 18 helpers, and Davis is 10th in career
assists (28) at Wheaton.
Thanks to a 9-0 league mark, the Lyons won their ninth consecutive
NEWMAC regular season crown and take aim at their seventh
tournament title this weekend. Wheaton is ranked seventh nationally
and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA). The Blue and White carries an
86-game unbeaten streak against NEWMAC teams, the longest active
undefeated run in conference play in NCAA soccer and the second
longest in history.
Davis holds a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in
Hispanic studies with a chemistry minor. A 2006 NSCAA All-America
pick, she has been a resident adviser and member of the Latino
Student Association at Wheaton while also earning Dean's List
honors.
During her career, Davis has led the Lyons to an 81-8-6 mark and 67
shutouts, influencing a defensive unit that has yielded opponents
just 50 goals in 8,717:22 for a 0.52 goals against average. She has
started 90 of her 93 games. Against NEWMAC foes, Davis has helped
the Lyons go 42-0-4 with 34 shutouts, allowing 16 goals in 4,228:34
for a 0.34 GAA.
The District I College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I
colleges and universities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Canadian
provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince
Edward Island and Quebec.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a
student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing,
possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a
starter or significant reserve.
