Wheaton Women's Soccer Draws NSCAA Academic Honor for Eighth Straight Year

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer program earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the eighth consecutive season as one of 260 women's squads from all levels of the NCAA, NAIA and junior college ranks to draw the honor for the 2007-08 academic year.

Each team will be honored at the 62nd annual NSCAA convention on January 14-18 in Saint Louis. Wheaton, which was one of 13 Division III schools from New England to qualify, including the lone representative of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), also succeeded on the field, going 16-6-2 and appearing in an NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight season. The Lyons went 7-1-1 in the league, tying for their 10th straight NEWMAC regular season crown before advancing to their 10th straight tournament title game.

A trio of Lyons earned individual academic honors this fall, led by junior co-captain Rosie Levy (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick School), who was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District I third team. A midfielder, Levy started all 16 contests in which she played, missing eight games in the middle of the season with an injury. She tied for second on the squad with six assists.

Senior Jessie Landau (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) and junior Kathleen Carroll (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz Central) qualified for the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team. Landau, who played at all three field positions during the season, made 11 starts while appearing in 22 of Wheaton's 24 contests. She scored both of her goals during a 4-1 Senior Day victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on October 21. Carroll started the first four games in the backfield before suffering a season-ending injury.
