Nine NEWMAC Student-Athletes Receive NSCAA/adidas All-Region Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Nine New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) student-athletes were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2008 Women's All-New England team, including two first team selections. In addition to the regional first team honor, Wheaton sophomore Alessia Viscomi (Newton, Mass.) picked up second team All-America accolades.

Viscomi was joined on the All-Region squad by teammates Lyndsey McManus (Marshfield, Mass.), Melida Alvarez (Saugus, Mass.) and Emily Hough (Norwich, Vt.), all of whom were second teamers. NEWMAC Player of the Year Lauren Peltier (Agawam, Mass.) of Springfield was the conference's only other first team selection. The NEWMAC tournament champion Pride matched Wheaton with a conference-high four recipients. Kayla Thibeault (Lebanon, Conn.) was named to the second team while Delaney Cantrall (Santa Paula, Calif.) and Nicole Hanewich (Smithfield, R.I.) were tabbed for the fourth team. Babson senior Jackie Graham (Winchester, Mass.) rounded out the conference honorees, as she garnered second team recognition.

Viscomi was one of just five All-America selections from New England and one of only four sophomores on the three national squads. This marks the 10th consecutive year that Wheaton has had a player named to the NSCAA All-America team.

The NSCAA/adidas All-America teams are determined through voting by member coaches. The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America luncheon, held on Saturday, January 17, as part of the 62nd annual NSCAA convention in Saint Louis.
